To participate in the CHCIO program an individual must be a current CHIME member in good standing. Once an individual meets the requirements of membership and becomes a member of CHIME they are eligible to enter the CHCIO program. They will still need to complete a program application and wait for approval.

To enroll in the CHCIO Program, applicants must:

• Be a CHIME provider/payer member
• Possess a baccalaureate degree or be enrolled in a baccalaureate program
• Have minimum 3 years of professional experience in a healthcare CIO or equivalent role within the past 6 years
• Complete the program enrollment application (Applications are processed within 7-10 business days)
• Complete the program enrollment with program enrollment fee of $649 (This fee includes; CHCIO application. study materials, practice exams and exam fees)

The CHCIO program enrollment is active for 6 months. This is to ensure the most recent information is collected in the candidate’s record and that the candidate is using the most up to date study materials to prepare for and take the exam. In the event a program enrollment expires, there is a re-enrollment fee of $99.

Equivalent experience: To be eligible for CHCIO status, equivalent experience must meet current CHIME CIO membership criteria within the allotted time frame required. For healthcare executives that do not carry the CIO title but hold the CIO role, equivalent experience is met. For clinical positions or those that fall under or lateral to the CIO position, additional information will need to be submitted using our Equivalent Experience Survey.

Applicants who do not meet experience requirements will qualify for CHCIO-Eligible status, and be given the opportunity to complete those requirements to apply for full CHCIO status upon completion.

• Successfully pass the Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) examination
• Complete 25 qualifying Continuing Education Units (CEUs) within the 12 months prior or 12 months after enrolling in the program (see CEU tab for additional information)
• Minimum half (12.5) coming from CHIME related events

Studying for exams can create unnecessary stress, sifting through overwhelming loads of information, and uncertainty about study material and best ways to prepare.  Our CHCIO Prep Course is designed to take you through the process of preparing for the CHCIO Exam and help you understand how to better prepare for the CHCIO Examination.

The Digital CHCIO Prep Course takes you on a deeper dive into the constructs of the CHCIO Examination.  Students will learn from CHCIO-certified healthcare experts, experienced in both the industry and in the CHCIO program.  This course transforms studying into application, providing clear peer-led sessions for each Domain area concentrating on critical topics and leaving the learner with tangible insight. 

This course includes:

• Peer-to-peer insight into the concepts learners will be tested on
• Flexible learning to meet each persons’ level of knowledge and availability
• Short sample quizzes to test level of understanding at each Domain
• Personalized guide and point of contact to walk you through this process

The CHCIO Prep Course is not a requirement to enrolling in the program nor passing the exam; it stands on its own as a peer-led study platform that guides you as you prepare and offers you real-world perspective, which is what the CHCIO Exam is designed to do.  The CHCIO Exam asks questions based on the reading materials but written from experience.  Gain a foundation of insight and application to carry you along in your studies, test your understanding, and train for further success in your career.
