There are many reasons why data provenance/lineage (i.e., knowing the history of a particular object) might be valuable, particularly on cloud-based infrastructure. A hypothetical data provenance/lineage system would store relationships between data and events with the purpose of tracking data objects as they are moved, processed/transformed, or otherwise interacted with. We are interested in understanding how CIOs think about data provenance/lineage and what CIOs want and need when it comes to data provenance/lineage. We would also like to discover what use cases data provenance/lineage would enable and the relative importance of each.
