The journey to implement electronic physician documentation across a health system can be a struggle, but can also lead to significant increases is physician satisfaction and decreased cost. Bob Diamond, Sr VP and CIO at HealthQuest*, helped to lead his health system through a very successful electronic physician documentation implementation that focused on ease of use, cultural change, physician compliance and comprehensive reporting. The physician adoption and acceptance were beyond what the organization expected and lead to both a 400% increase in physician satisfaction (beginning at 20% based on ERC national survey and increased to 80%) and a $1.3 million decrease in transcription costs across the health system.
