Getting Your Arms Around the Data
Alan Tackett, SVP of Delivery/CIO at MMY Consulting
The amount of data at every organization is growing at a rapid rate. Understanding how to navigate that data and turn it into meaningful information requires an organizational strategy and commitment that is outside the normal operational efforts and/or governance structure. We all hate buzz words and the flavor of the day, however, this initiatives truly warrants a "data" driven culture. Paramount to making faster, more informed decisions is proper data utilization.
Unfortunately, there is no cookie cutter solution. Our recommendation is to start at the source of origination from a data perspective and build a model that fits within your existing governance structure.
A key component is determining the appropriate team members and the most effective way to enable data literacy.
Learning Objective #1: Understand the value of formalizing the data governance process.
Learning Objective #2: Example of actual data governance models and be able to adapt pieces to their own organization.
Learning Objective #3: The councils or groups required to implement sustainable data governance needs to be understood as well as why it is more than a robust analytics team.
