The aspirations and hype of interoperability, data aggregation and informatics have long been touted as the solution for transforming patient care – and yet we are still drowning in data but starved for insights.

Over the past 20 years, healthcare has continued to make great advances in harnessing technology and innovation for the patient and also for the workforce, this incremental impact is still out of step with the true transformational potential of integrating data from across all systems and devices throughout the healthcare system. Without the ability to aggregate, normalize, optimize, and operationalize different formats and sources of data to improve patient outcomes, streamline workflows, help clinicians to be more efficient and help healthcare systems, the hype is still the reality. Can we convert the hype into transformational insights, or will we continue to drown, hoping for some change in the future?
