Why Every Hospital Must Have a Digital Strategy
Event Information
While most CIOs agree that it is critical to have a defined technology or digital strategy, creating and maintaining one is a big challenge. As a result, very few organizations have a defined plan. A handful of very progressive organizations will have a strategic plan where technology and digital transformation are enablers. While not identified in a separate, distinct plan, the specific initiatives are embedded in the overall plan. This is rare and we see it in about 5% of health systems. Studies have shown that about 20% of hospitals do have a written technology or digital strategy but only have of those are executed and updated once the plan is completed. It takes a lot of hard work and cultural fortitude. The majority of hospitals simply do not have a coherent technical or digital strategy. Most initiatives are based on the crisis of the day, individual projects from influential leaders and legitimate investments aligned with the organizational strategy. It is very much hit and miss and comes at a steep price. The foundational elements and infrastructure to support strategic initiatives are underinvested. So, how do you go about changing this narrative and outcome?
