Event Information
For many healthcare organizations, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought a number of projects to a screeching halt. At McLaren Health Care, the final phase of a complex, multi-year implementation of clinical communication technology appeared to be a prime candidate for indefinite postponement. By rethinking the project model to accommodate a remote work structure between McLaren Health and the communication technology partner, the implementation moved forward as planned and became an example of ingenuity under pressure. In this webinar, Dr. Norman Chapin, CMO for McLaren Health’s Bay and Thumb Regions, and Jeff Brown, COO for PerfectServe, will discuss the project from end to end and share how “forced innovation” yielded excellent results and valuable lessons for the future. Learning Objectives:- Learn why the crucial role of communication during an emergent situation convinced internal stakeholders at McLaren Health Care—initially skeptical of continuing with the final phase of this project amid concerns related to COVID-19—to move forward.
- Learn how the McLaren Health Care and PerfectServe teams worked together to reimagine the implementation process to accommodate a 100 percent virtual setup—and what it means for future projects.
- Understand how the novel approaches that brought this project across the finish line with notable success can be replicated in different projects and at other healthcare organizations.

Join Hans Buitendijk, Director Interoperability Strategy at Cerner and Josh Mast, Lead Regulatory Strategist as they discuss the impact government has on the evolution of health care interoperability to date and the future through key legislative and regulatory initiatives. Interoperability has been around for many decades. First across information system components, then across departments, further crossing organizational boundaries, and now growing to a national if not global level of sharing data. Initial cross-organizational interoperability emerged in the mid-eighties. Regional collaborations started in the nineties. National networks started this century, and now we are exploring how to further share and manage data better and deeper into the workflows across all stakeholders, including providers, payers, consumers, research, and public health. In this webinar, we’ll review the role of government to ever expand on the reach and value of interoperability through HITECH, establishing a nation-wide information network, 21st Century Cures Act, and now also the introduction of TEFCA, while exploring what this foundation will require and enable us to focus on next to make essential data available at your fingertips. You’ll gain insight as to where the industry is going and how government will promote consumer participation in information sharing. Learning Objectives:- Understand evolution of healthcare interoperability and where the industry is going
- Learn where to focus resources to comply with government regulations
- Discuss the connection between government influence and private innovation in the world of healthcare interoperability
