Welcome to CHISL Certification!

The Certified Healthcare Information Security Leader (CHISL) is designed to test for advanced skills and knowledge of an experienced leader in healthcare information security. A CHISL is a strategic executive who demonstrates dynamic, forward-thinking leadership with technical proficiency and tactical knowledge, contributing to the overall protection of the Healthcare Infrastructure. To see how these programs compare, click here.

As a CHISL holder, you are expected to:

  • Ensure information security strategic planning is aligned with the organization’s clinical and business objectives
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of security foundations and practical applications of IT in healthcare
  • Identify emerging security issues and manage appropriate security response
  • Apply a standards-based approach to the principles and applications of risk management
  • Collaborate with business, clinical, and IT leaders to devise incident response and business continuity/disaster recovery strategies

CHIME is a professional organization for senior-level digital health leaders worldwide. We are committed to serving healthcare security leaders through quality education, professional certifications, public policy, and career development. If you currently serve within the healthcare security ecosystem, welcome! You can learn about our CHIME and AEHIS memberships to further support investing in your professional development, opening the door to a growing network of peers, and elevating you as a leader.

How do I become CHISL certified?

As an active HCISPP or CISSP holder, you can apply for the CHISL certification through a simplified enrollment process.

Short supplemental exam (to test for additional competency areas within healthcare leadership)

Reduced cost of $299

This is available from now until December 31, 2024.

*All applicants must have a minimum of three years in healthcare information security leadership.

Once your application is received, a member of our team will be in touch within 48 business hours to provide next steps to earning your new credential. Study materials will be made available for this supplemental exam.

How do I maintain my CHISL certification?

The CHISL certification is active for three years. Within these three years you will be required to complete:

  • 45 total CEUs (at this time 22.5 coming from CHIME related programs)
  • $199 renewal fee

Qualifying CEUs need to be based in cybersecurity, digital health, or leadership development. There is no yearly minimum CEU number to complete, but we recommend at least 15 CEUs every year to ensure you stay on target to advance your certification.

What if I do not fully qualify for CHISL?

Great news! CHISL is not the only certification offered through CHIME. Our Certified Digital Health (CDH) Program offers a similar path to certification in digital health. There are three levels of certification:

  • Professional (1+ year healthcare experience)
  • Leader (1-3 years management healthcare experience)
  • Executive (3+ executive healthcare experience)

You can pursue the CDH credential by applying here.
