Eligibility: Anyone in Healthcare IT, including CHIME members; AEHIA, AEHIT, and AEHIS members, Foundation Partners, and non-members.
The CHIME-AEHIS Healthcare CISO Boot Camp Digital is an intensive education program offered by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and taught by a faculty of healthcare thought leaders. Combining presentations, small group discussions, case studies and interactive problem solving, participants learn the real-world skills necessary to become a successful digital health leader. CHIME is committed to giving every attendee a meaningful executive level experience throughout the course to maximize participation. In this 6-week course we will explore the role of data governance in establishing a robust and successful Analytics Program within a healthcare provider organization and identify best practices for building such a program. The course is roughly divided in half: the first half focuses on data governance writ large. The requests for technology and the the breadth of techology solutions in healthcare are expanding exponentially. Requests for new technology will always exceed the organization’s available resources to purchase and implement. A successful IT governance process ensures investment decisions will be made in a way that best meets the organization’s needs and that the technology selected will bring the greatest value to patients. This six-week course will present the steps for creating an effective and engaging process for making information technology decisions in a healthcare setting. Learners will participate in individual and group study through weekly reading assignments, online study sessions, interaction in conversations with other students and weekly live sessions to discuss learnings and ask questions. Together the group will review the reasons for setting up governance, how to select governance committee members and develop a charter, ways to define evaluation criteria for decision making, how to prepare an investment business case, how to approve and prioritize investments and how to achieve value from the technology once it is implemented. Through real-world examples and experiences the group will discuss what makes healthcare IT governance different and how various types and sizes of healthcare organizations can create an IT governance approach that works for them. Learners will have the opportunity to explore these different aspects of governance with other members of the class.
