How technology is opening healthcare access for thousands of Americans

Millions of people in America lack access to an affordable health plan. Many work for small businesses who can’t afford to offer the kind of health insurance options that make it easier for bigger organizations to attract and recruit talent.

CarynHealth identified this need as an opportunity to change the market, and believed that technology could play a role. However, existing solutions had high administrative costs due to old, cumbersome software. There was a lack of useful, cost-effective technology to enable innovation in the healthcare space.

As an emerging healthcare technology company, CarynHealth decided to build the technology itself. It made it its mission to create a more agile, cost-effective model for healthcare plans, not only supporting small businesses and their employees, but creating a managed services offering through cloud-native technology platforms for health payors, too.

To build the cloud-based architecture it needed, CarynHealth partnered with UST. This journey began in the innovation lab, where CarynHealth tested different technologies to deliver an innovative yet affordable solution.

Based on these learnings, UST helped CarynHealth leverage ledger-based technologies on the cloud to build an agile, configurable platform without license fees. This included a member enrollment platform for brokers, HIPAA-compliant integration layers, repositories for membership data and an integrated claims workflow.

UST’s Platform for Accelerated Cloud Engineering (UST PACE) laid a robust and secure digital foundation for CarynHealth’s systems, delivering reusability and reliability with an end-to-end software delivery platform that enables rapid growth.

Today, CarynHealth’s digital-first approach enables it to pass on its cost savings directly to health payors, who can, in turn, offer affordable, quality healthcare plans to their customers.

In line with its original mission, CarynHealth also launched CuramLife. This low-cost virtual care platform provides healthcare and wellness access to small business employees and their families, often for the first time.

Through UST’s innovation lab, CarynHealth was able to build a secure ledger-based system for payments that met the demands of healthcare regulation.

We developed an integrated, cloud-based member enrollment platform for brokers to interact with prospecting members. This involved creating HIPAA-compliant integration and data layers for membership information and an electronic data layer for the claims process. All solutions are hosted on AWS Cloud.

Through our UST PACE platform, we developed an advanced 12-step DevOps pipeline that delivers robust and secure code in seconds. UST PACE quickly matured CarynHealth’s software engineering practice, instilling best practice policies, workflows and automations to boost productivity and reliability.
